The farm house

Flooded by the yellow light of the inland zone of the Cabo de Gata National Park, and with its architecture merging into this in a play of light and shade, we find the Cortijo El Sotillo, one of the area’s farming centres and now converted into a hotel and restaurant.

The story of Cortijo El Sotillo is one that goes back more than 250 years in time, back to the first half of the 18th century. The farm’s documented history dates from that time.

Talking about the Cortijo El Sotillo is to tell a history of light, work and people’s relationship with the environment. It is, in short, to talk about the traditional ways of life in Almeria.

Nowadays, fields and facilities for agricultural use still surround the farmhouse: vegetable plots, animal pens, storehouses, ovens… Respect for the traditional environment is tempered with aspects of its new tourist character, with facilities that invite guests to get close to nature.
